“Do Ya Feel Lucky?… Well Do Ya?”

As I’ve made it clear in the past I am an avid fan of science fiction so being that I created a character that was totally science fiction and mysterious and could possibly be I decided to place him in a universe that had these weapons in them. These weapons go along with with one of my original posts called “Hunters: The Space Cowboys of Destiny”.

These beautiful and powerful weapons are my fictional characters arsenal. I did the research and placed the proper information on them that in some cases lead to their own little bit of story. I imagine that my character, Donnie Rejj, to dual wield these awesome Hand Cannons and strapped to his back in the legendary shotgun, The 4th Horseman. and to boot, when Rejj is in need of some serious fire power there is none more powerful and iconic that the Gjallarhorn Rocket System.

Though this might have taken a while to put together it was well worth it and fun to merge my own creation with something that I enjoy and appreciate the art behind the scenes. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them.

Last Word Ace of Spades

The 4th Horsman Gjallarhorn

I hope you liked these. If you’re a Destiny fan you know there’s so much more behind these but for this taking my character and arming him with these awesome and beautiful weapons is fun and changes my perspective on his ability to not only be a stealthy rogue but a heavy hitting juggernaut.

The Pixel Bunch

This actually looks a lot easier that it was. This was hard. I thought I was going to have fun doing it but it’s almost daylight and I have spent way to much time on something that looks so simple and still have a few little problems here and there. Please there’s anyone that could give me any pointers on the rough edges please feel free to comment or message me however you want. I hope it’s at least worth a little chuckle for whoever sees it. Cheers and good night!

Do You Even Pilgrim Bro?

“The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” is another of my childhood revisits and another reason for the fame of John Wayne and his use of the word “Pilgrim”. It’s not just the inexperience and western life ignorance that Stoddard wins this name from Tom but rather the ideals that Stoddard brought with him and the refusal to give up in his endeavors in the odd named town of shinbone. I did think that the movie as a whole really tried to reflect western life as it truly was. A small example is this picture of the undertaker.

Slide1

Town undertakers were really just the guy that you went to when you needed something done with wood or if someone was stiff as a board. The story is fairly basic but those are the most popular. What makes this movie truly enjoyable is not only it’s nostalgic charm but the straight forwardness of the cinematography. It’s all blocked out and framed up nicely with evenly weighted views. In the below picture we see when Valance beats Stoddard nearly to death but the whole frame is evenly weighted even with it being a scene that has a lot of movement. the two henchmen on the left, Valance center, and the gnarly tree on the right. I personally love this capture because you can see Valance eyes perfectly and the hate and evil that lives behind them.

Slide2

I think my favorite moments of this movie are captured below.  I did all these captures with just your basic screen grab. I didn’t enhance or anything like that.

Stoddards shooting lesson from Tom was brilliant. Toms intent on showing that Stoddard is fighting a losing battle with the gun gets put on his butt with Stoddards raw anger but also his determination and beliefs in what’s right which doesn’t include backing down from Valance regardless of gun skills.

Do You Even Photo Bro?

So this would be considered my Achilles heal so to speak. We shall see. I know that confidence and determination are strong forces and we shall certainly find out.

I once loved photography and always took pictures but something changed and now I’m not the person that’s constantly taking photos. I don’t know what it is for certain but I know that “being in the moment” and truly enjoying it played a part of it. I didn’t feel that I could truly enjoy a moment, place, event, or fill in the blank because I couldn’t stop taking photos.

I wasn’t a great photographer I got lucky with a few really good shots now and then but I felt as I explained and thought the quick phone photo was enough to remember anything important instead of traveling around taking photographs of life, societies, nature and what not.

So I’ll be brushing off the dust of my old SLR this week. I certainly hope all goes well. I will admit a bit of anxiety but I’m sure that will subside with taking more and more photos as the week progresses.

Who know’s maybe this will get me back into photography. Best of luck to all of you.

The Mining Job: Part 1

The air was dry and stale. The stations dehumidifiers and air scrubbers saw to that. They were out of alignment that gave a strange taste to the air. Every time Donnie inhaled he felt as if he was just around the corner from a broken garbage compactor. He sat at the small mining stations bar with the first shot of clear the keep had given him when walked in an hour earlier.

He sighed and caught his breath billow out in front of him and felt a chill run through his body. He turned to the bar keep and asked,

“Has it gotten colder in here?”

“First mining crew from the Drifts are returning soon. Mechanic turns down the temps to near freezing. Says the miner’s bodies warm the place up when they return from salvage harvest”. The bar keep answered. “I know it’s uncomfortable for a might but the temp in artificial enviros changes fast; especially when, as of right now, it’s just you, me, and ‘ole Danny back there keepin’ the gears turning.”

Donnie nodded and downed his shot of clear. It felt cold going down and he placed the glass on the bar to be met with the keeps hand out reaching to refill it.

Donnie Rejj hadn’t quite decided how he was going to pull this off yet. He’d thought of sparing the lives of the small station but with what was at stake, not having any survivors would make things easier certainly.

His brow furrowed and his eyes narrowed as the bar keep approached. This was it. “Better now when I have the chance and a half-assed plan than dead with a sentimental plan to keep men that would become slaves to Origin anyway”. Rejj thought to himself. He knew that some would rather choose death than slavery or servitude. If only he had the choice. Regardless the time had come.

With a swift and powerful twist of his left arm, Donnie grabbed the outstretched hand of the bar keep and had him laid out on the bar in a second.

“I’m sorry, I wish there was another way.” Donnie said grimly.

Donnie placed his right hand on the back of the keeps head and a quiet “shink” sound was all the gauntlet blade made as it severed his first victims spinal cord.

The body lay limp with a half shocked look on its face as Donnie watched the eyes glaze over showing the last bit of consciousness leave. There was very little blood. Donnie preferred it that way most times. He lightly shoved the bar keep over behind the bar and stood to his feet.

He figured he’d have about ten minutes to dispatch the mechanic. By now he had already none about the death of his one and only bar tender through the stations biometric tracking system. Would Danny be a fool and come running to aid the bar keep or would he hunker down in the generator suspicious of the sudden death of his college.

In a mining station this size it would only take a couple minute to get to the central location of the bar. Rejj sat quietly waiting for the door to open or even footsteps.

Nothing.

Donnie Rejj stood up slowly and walked to the door and as he exited he whispered to himself, “Here Danny Boy. Origins Dark Angel is coming.”

Week 3 Summary

This was an insight week of assignments. I love writing and really put a lot of myself into it. I’m looking forward to the picture editing week but a bit intimidated. I’m a perfectionist of a sort and with picture editing I’m hoping to learn some cool stuff.

I especially enjoyed this week writing my own western character. Though as I often and mostly have done, I take to space. And on a side note I really feel like it’s time for the Western and Sci-fi genres to clash once again. Making Donnie Rejj was so much fun. I didn’t want to describe him so much as I wanted the reader to envision him as a what he was, a cold blooded killer that at one point had a meaningful and morally good life but now his skills are being used for more evil purposes which those are even left to the imagination. I’ve posted it elsewhere to actually get feedback and the stories and questions were all so different which drove me to write the next section regarding “Who” would I rather be and I was very inspired by the reactions of some of these people to the point where I had to portray our differences as human beings and ultimately what I wanted to be was “EVERYTHING”. In a way through the many mediums of imagination I’ve experienced a lot of things that admittedly are true to the reality but it’s enough for my brain to take me on “The Magic Carpet Ride” so to speak. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to what’s next.

The Many Faces of You and I

To thing or even contemplate about being another person or living another life has probably crossed just about every human being’s life at some point. The grass is always greener on the other side even if you’re the greener side of life already.

The reflection of this desire has been expressed in books, movies, board games, and video games especially I would think. People create interesting characters that people would idolize or become connected to. I distinctively remember a particular crime television show having a sudden death of a beloved character and my wife and I being emotionally hurt because of the investment that we had personally put into a made up character.

I’m an avid gamer and would game all the time if I could. Whether it’s board games or video games I’m very interested and involved. And for me I think that says a lot. I love stories. I love entertainment. Why? Is this my mind and personalities way of showing that I’m not happy with my current state unless it’s full of as much fiction or non-fiction that’s not my life at all. Does this mean that I’m truly living my life to its fullest?

In a word, yes I believe I am. Some certain may not think so and that’s their right to do so but I believe that wanting to experience life as something fantastic even for a little while is a gift regardless of you paying for it or not. I’m still me and yes I’ve been influenced by the things that I’ve done in my life but I also believe that exposer to all these different mediums of entertainment or, more broadly, imagination is a wonderful and marvelous thing.

People poke fun at those that play massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) day in and day out. I’ll confess that I’ve spent too much time on multiple games and suffered for it. I’m not a heavy drinker but I’m sure there many of people out there that have had a little too much alcohol from time to time; as have I or at least indulged in a pleasure too much that the individual or society would consider it “excessive”. I’m not justifying it or saying that it’s right or wrong. I’m saying don’t judge for you can be judged for your own excessive use of “fill in the blank”.

Most if not all of humanity has dreamed of a better life for themselves. I believe we get glimpses of true happiness and that is what keeps us driving on. For me those moments are not found in a video game or movie but rather in the people, places, and things that mean the most to me and have significant meaning that remind me a time or aspiration.

So for this assignment I can say that I’ve dabbled in sorcery, alchemy, being an assassin, being a western outlaw, being a federal agent, being a nuclear war survivor, survival, and so much more. I feel because of all this imagination I’m a better and more whole person and I’m saying that for myself alone. Doctors don’t write the same prescriptions for all their patients because they’d all be dead. Life is your own experience. Live it to YOUR fullest.

This Daily Create was where do I accomplish all my DS106 work and picture represents “everywhere”… and a creepy hand. 😉

The task was to take a picture of ones feet. Not hard but I’m glad I have them and I’m glad I can walk. I know a few that are as lucky. This reminded me of who I take the “normal” for granted.

I hope you liked it. I don’t go into great detail because I want the reader to pose questions and become curious about his mysterious character that love/hates his job in some mysterious evil faction. There were certain questions that I hoped the reader would have making them want to read more.

Please tell me what questions you have if any and if this was in any way interesting. I hope it was! I would love to watch a space western like this play out on screen. Maybe when Tarantino is done making real westerns he can make a space western.
